A little video of trimming to excess wrap off of a tom.
This is my dream kit right here. Took months and months to acquire enough orphaned drums to do this rewrap of Vintage 60’s Black Oyster (yes, the exact same wrap as Ringo Starr’s – The Beatles). Complete rewrap job including a 12″ and 13″ tom, 14″ and 16″ floor tom, 20″ bass drum and a 10-lug 14″ snare. The wrap was purchased through Precision Drum Company in New York and I couldn’t have been more excited to get started on the restoration.
Hand picked parts & pieces from our “acquired” and “collected” parts bins. This project took a couple of weeks to complete and was well worth the time. Colour matched and painted interior shells, some hole fills, sanding, fresh bearing edges, etc. There was enough wrap to do another snare and that was passed off to Carmen.
These are now my main kit and they have the ability to be configured in a variety of ways. 12″, 13″, 14″, 16″, 20″ and snare. Allows for 12″ tom, 14″ floor, 20″ bass and snare or 13″ tom, 16″ floor, 20″ bass and snare, etc. You get the idea. 1 up, 2 down – 2 up, 2 down – 1 up, 1 down…you name it. If we were to recommend rewrapping a kit, this would be my recommendation. Allows for a large amount of options down the road.
